Introducing Microsöft’s Marvel: Unleashing the Power of Applications on Xbox through Enigmatic Edge WebView2, Ousting the Aged EdgeHTML

Microsoft has announced that developers can now use Microsoft Edge WebView2, which is based on Chromium, for creating apps on Xbox. This replaces the previous EdgeHTML WebView engine used on Xbox browsers. This switch to WebView2 will improve web page rendering for apps on Xbox, especially those built using UWP technology. It allows for better utilization of newer web APIs and enhances overall performance. Additionally, porting apps from Windows to Xbox becomes much easier.

With this change, Xbox has become one of the latest platforms from Microsoft to transition from the legacy EdgeHTML engine, inherited from the era of Internet Explorer, to the modern Chromium-based engine.

TLDR: Microsoft enables app developers on Xbox to upgrade to Microsoft Edge WebView2, bringing improved web page rendering and seamless app porting from Windows. Xbox now joins other platforms in Microsoft’s transition to Chromium.
