Samsung has introduced two new microSD cards, with the first card being the SD Express microSD following the new SD Express standard released in 2019. This card utilizes PCIe 3.1 for data transmission, theoretically allowing for a maximum bandwidth of 985 MBps. In comparison, Samsung’s card boasts a bandwidth of 800 MBps, a significant increase from the previous UHS-1 interface of standard microSDs with a maximum speed of 104 MBps.
Samsung is the first manufacturer to release microSD cards in the SD Express format. The initial card has a capacity of 256GB and is already being sent out as samples to partners. Mass production is set to begin within the year 2024.
Another card that has been unveiled is a 1TB capacity card utilizing the traditional UHS-1 interface but incorporating a new V-NAND memory chip with a 1-terabit (Tb) size, stacked in 8 layers to achieve the 1TB capacity. Samsung claims that this new chip offers high stability and durability. Sales of this card are expected to start in the third quarter of 2024.
TLDR: Samsung has launched new microSD cards with advanced features and increased storage capacities, setting new standards in the industry.
