Introducing the All-New ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12: Empowering Performance with Cutting-Edge Core Ultra Processor, Revolutionary Fn and Ctrl Button Switch

Lenovo has unveiled its new lineup of laptops for 2024, featuring the latest Intel Core Ultra processors from Intel. There are a total of four models, including both ThinkPad and IdeaPad brands.

On the business-oriented ThinkPad side, two flagship models have been introduced: the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12, a classic and timeless laptop design, and the ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 Gen 9, a convertible laptop with a foldable screen that replaces the previous Yoga branding (without an explanation for the switch).

The specifications of both ThinkPad X1 models are similar, with an Intel Core Ultra processor, 14-inch display, up to 64GB of RAM, up to 2TB NVMe SSD storage, an 8MP high-resolution front camera, a 57 Whr battery, and starting weights of 1.09kg (Carbon) and 1.32kg (2-in-1).

Although there aren’t many external design changes, both ThinkPad X1 models have undergone significant internal changes:

– The Fn key has been moved inside, and the Ctrl key has been moved to the outside, similar to other laptop brands (without explaining the reason for the change).
– Raised ridges have been added to the keys to improve tactile recognition. Previously, only the F/J keys had ridges. Lenovo collaborated with a blind school in the United States to develop this feature, ensuring an improved experience for visually impaired individuals. The keys that now include raised ridges are Volume up/down (frequently used), Insert (easier separation from Delete), Fn (used for screen reading programs), and Enter.
– The trackpad has increased in size to 120mm and now includes two touch-sensitive TrackPoint buttons for special menus.

The ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12 will begin selling some sub-models in December 2023, with prices starting at $2,989. The ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 Gen 9 will be available in March 2024 (alongside the full lineup of Core Ultra processors), with prices starting at $2,639.

On the IdeaPad side, targeted towards consumers, is the IdeaPad Pro 5i, available in both 16-inch and 14-inch display models. Apart from the display size, the specifications are similar: up to Intel Core Ultra 9 processors, up to 32GB of RAM, up to 1TB storage, dual graphics options with Intel Arc and GeForce RTX 4050, an IR front camera, and an 84 Whr battery.

The 16-inch model of the IdeaPad Pro 5i is the first laptop to receive Intel Evo Edition certification for the Core Ultra era and is now available for purchase, starting at $1,149.99.

In conclusion, Lenovo has introduced a new lineup of laptops for 2024, with the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12 and ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 Gen 9 leading the business segment, and the IdeaPad Pro 5i targeting consumers. These laptops offer powerful specifications and unique features that cater to different user needs.

TLDR: Lenovo has unveiled its 2024 laptop lineup, featuring the flagship ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12 and ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 Gen 9 models. Both laptops offer powerful specifications, such as Intel Core Ultra processors, up to 64GB of RAM, and high-resolution cameras. The ThinkPad models also feature key design changes, including the relocation of the Fn and Ctrl keys and the addition of raised ridges for improved tactile recognition. On the consumer side, the IdeaPad Pro 5i is available in 16-inch and 14-inch display models, offering high-performance processors, dual graphics options, and a large battery capacity. The 16-inch model is the first to receive Intel Evo Edition certification.
