Intel has announced a revamp in the nomenclature of their next-generation Xeon processors, moving away from the previous 5th Gen Xeon designation to the new Xeon 6 moniker (hello Pentium era!). This marks a continuous rebranding of Intel’s CPUs, as the competitor side adopts the Core Ultra branding and drops the Gen suffix.
The Xeon 6 lineup consists of two distinct chips:
1. Granite Rapids: A standard Xeon processor utilizing high-performance P-Core, similar to the 5th Gen Xeon, expected to follow Sierra Forest with minor differences.
2. Sierra Forest: The first of a new breed of Xeon processors, exclusively featuring energy-efficient E-Core designs, emphasizing high core density within a single chip. Set to debut in the second quarter of 2024.
