Ireland Launches Investigation into X Allegations of Incorrectly Training User Posts from EU Member States with Grok

The Data Protection Commission of Ireland, or DPC, has announced the commencement of an investigation X regarding the management of publicly posted data by users in the European Union or EU to determine compliance with the GDPR requirements.

This investigation focuses on the utilization of data posted on X for training Grok artificial intelligence of xAI, a company co-founded by Elon Musk, which is currently merged with X.

Previously, the Irish regulatory agency issued a directive prohibiting X from using user data in Europe to develop AI. However, X has agreed to comply with this case by offering users the option to consent to their data being used for AI training purposes only.
