Japan Announces Massive Funding of Rapidus 1.4 Trillion Baht to Establish Advanced Chip Manufacturing Plant in Country

The government of Japan has announced a funding of up to 5.9 trillion yen (1.4 trillion baht) for Rapidus, a Japanese chip manufacturing company, to establish an advanced chip manufacturing factory in the country. The company plans to build the factory in Hokkaido, set to open in 2027, in collaboration with IBM and the Belgian research company, Imec.

Japan’s Minister of Economic Affairs stated that this funding is crucial for the semiconductor industry in Japan to compete in the global market. In February, TSMC, a major chip manufacturer from Taiwan, also recently opened its first factory in Japan and is preparing to open another one, with funding support from the Japanese government.
