Japanese billionaire cancels dearMoon project to travel to the moon due to unspecified delays in the rescheduled plans.

Yusaku Maezawa, a Japanese billionaire and owner of the online fashion website Zozo, who was the first customer and purchased a SpaceX chartered moon voyage for the dearMoon project with 10 artists from around the world, has recently announced the cancellation of this journey.

Originally scheduled for 2023, the trip had to be called off due to delays and uncertainty surrounding the new travel timetable. Maezawa has expressed his regrets and extended his apologies to all supporters of the project. Moving forward, he and his crew will focus on their individual developments.

Apart from Maezawa, the dearMoon project included 10 international artist crew members (with 2 as reserves), including DJ Steve Aoki, T.O.P from Big Bang, and YouTuber Tim Dodd.

Maezawa provided further insight into the cancellation, citing a contract signed in 2018 with hopes of launching in 2023. However, due to ongoing development and unclear progress, the spaceship’s readiness remains unknown, leading to his decision to cancel the project.

Responding to Maezawa’s decision, crew member Rhiannon Adam highlighted that the crew was not consulted about the cancellation and were not given the option to wait. This unilateral decision-making by Maezawa has left crew members like Adam wanting to wait until the project was truly ready.

TLDR: Yusaku Maezawa cancels the dearMoon project due to delays and uncertainty, apologizing to supporters, while crew members express disappointment at not being consulted about the decision.
