Leader of Amazon Games Reveals Progress of New Tomb Raider Installment, Expanding into Non-MMO Game Genres

Christoph Hartmann, the top executive of Amazon Games, recently sat down with IGN to discuss the overall gaming business that Amazon has been shaping for quite some time.

King of Meat, a co-op game by Glowmade, is seen as one of the initial steps taken by Amazon Games away from their expertise in MMO games (such as their self-developed New World, Lost Ark, and Blue Protocol which have made waves in the Western market). Currently, Amazon Games has a total of 10 games in development and is in negotiations with partners for several more games.

The latest status update on the Lord of the Rings MMO, developed by the New World team, is “not too far away”. As for the new Tomb Raider game, it is progressing as planned by Crystal Dynamics studio, almost unaffected by the situation of parent company Embracer Group. However, Hartmann acknowledges that the original bar set by the Tomb Raider games is extremely high, and the longer they develop the game, the higher the expectations grow.

He also mentioned the Nintendo Switch 2 console, stating that plans are in place for game development, but he prefers the team to take their time to ensure the game reaches a high level of quality rather than rushing its release and disappointing fans later on.

He emphasizes the importance of maintaining high quality in game development and hints at plans for the Nintendo Switch 2.
