Limitations in hardware prevent Google Pixel 8 from featuring Gemini Nano, according to Google.

The Android engineering team has revealed through Google’s The Android Show that the Gemini Nano AI model developed by Google for running mobile phones will not be available for use in the Pixel 8 due to hardware limitations. However, Google has stated that Gemini Nano plans to expand to various devices, especially upcoming smartphones in the future.

Gemini Nano was updated for use in the Pixel 8 Pro at the end of last year. The hardware details differ only in the RAM, with Pixel 8 having 8GB compared to the Pixel 8 Pro’s 12GB. It is interesting to note that while Samsung’s Galaxy S24 has also incorporated many of Google’s AI features, it starts with 8GB of RAM as well.
