Local Live Streaming Platform in South Korea Surpasses International Platforms with Average User Subscription of 1.8 Platforms

The Mobile Index report on the number of streaming platform users in South Korea reveals that local platforms such as Coupang Play, Tving, and Wavve have seen a significant increase in users, surpassing international platforms like Netflix and Disney+.

In March of this year, there were a total of 20.1 million streaming accounts in South Korea, with an average of 1.8 platform subscriptions per respondent. Previously, international platforms had dominated the market share, with Netflix holding a 47% share in 2023, which has now decreased to 35% this year. Meanwhile, local platforms like Coupang Play and Tving have seen a rise in users, particularly Coupang Play, which gained 1.7 million accounts since the end of 2023, following the success of popular series like Boyhood and live broadcasts of AFC football matches.
