Mandatory Emergency Brake System Requirement for New Vehicles Sold in 2029 by the United States to Minimize Losses.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a division under the Ministry of Transportation, has implemented regulations for new cars being sold in 2029 to be equipped with Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) systems.

According to the Ministry of Transportation, the AEB system is vital in reducing casualties and injuries from accidents, potentially saving the lives of 360 individuals and preventing injuries to 24,000 people annually. The ministry believes that the AEB systems in newer car models are progressively improving and are practical for use, leading to the decision to enforce this regulation.

The new NHTSA regulation specifies that lightweight vehicles (sedans, SUVs, light trucks) sold in September 2029 must have AEB systems that operate at speeds of 62 miles per hour (approximately 100 kilometers per hour), capable of detecting pedestrians crossing the road (not just vehicles ahead), and functioning both during the day and at night.
