Bungie Studio unveiled the new game Marathon in May 2023, but faced numerous challenges thereafter. They had to lay off staff, delay the game, and undergo a second round of layoffs this year, with some team members moving to Sony’s zone, leaving the fate of Marathon uncertain.
Recently, Joe Zeigler, the game director of Marathon, shared an update on the game, showcasing two characters and announcing playtest trials starting in the coming year, 2025. The exact completion date of the game development remains unspecified.
Zeigler admitted that the game is not ready to be revealed yet but revealed the classes of characters, Thief and Stealth, known as Runners in the world of Marathon.
Additionally, Bungie, now under PlayStation’s umbrella, confirmed that Marathon will be available to play on both the Xbox Series X|S platform, besides PS5 and PC.
TLDR: Bungie faced challenges with the game Marathon, but Joe Zeigler provided an update on character classes and announced playtesting for 2025. The game will be available on Xbox Series X|S in addition to PlayStation 5 and PC.
