Microsoft has announced the discontinuation of support for the Mail and Calendar app by the end of 2024 in order to transition to the new Outlook app as per the original plan. The Mail and Calendar app, also known as Windows Mail, comes pre-installed with Windows 10/11, but Microsoft has been gradually removing it from newer versions of Windows 11 Insider. Microsoft has stated that “most” users have successfully moved to New Outlook. While Mail and Calendar can still be downloaded from the Microsoft Store, downloads will be discontinued by the end of this year.
On the other hand, users of Classic Outlook (Win32), especially within organizations, will face another timeline as the features of New Outlook still do not completely replace it. Microsoft will continue to support Classic Outlook until at least 2029.
TLDR: Microsoft is phasing out support for the Mail and Calendar app to transition users to the new Outlook app by the end of 2024, with ongoing support for Classic Outlook until at least 2029.
