Microsoft Emerges as Top Software Game Company in Revenue, Surpassing EA by a Wide Margin

Ampere Analysis, a marketing data company, has revealed the revenue statistics of gaming companies in December 2024 as follows:

Microsoft takes the lead with a whopping total revenue of 465 million dollars, leveraging the power of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 with a player base of approximately 38 million monthly, and interestingly, 64% of Microsoft’s customer base is derived from the rival platform, PlayStation.

With Microsoft’s revenue structure undergoing a transformation post the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, we see Microsoft pivoting towards software dominance, leveraging their own games across various platforms (shifting from competition to collaboration) and showing decreased interest in their hardware. This inclination might stem from this new revenue structure.

In second place, EA follows at a distance with revenue of 366 million dollars. Their standout revenue generator is EA Sports FC 25, even though revenue fell short of their target.

Game developers from China have seen immense success, with Tencent ranking 5th and Netease ranking 9th. Noteworthy games in this period include:
– Marvel Rivals (Netease) with 29 million players
– Path of Exile 2 (Tencent) generating 148 million dollars in revenue
– Infinity Nikki (Papergames)
– Delta Force (Tencent)

TLDR: Microsoft dominates the gaming industry with a revenue of 465 million dollars in December 2024, driven by Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, while EA follows with revenue of 366 million dollars. Chinese game developers Tencent and Netease have also found success with popular titles in the market.
