Microsoft has reported an investment in Mistral, a French AI startup, as part of their collaboration to offer Mistral Large models on Azure. The investment amounts to 15 million euros, which can be converted into Mistral shares when the company launches a new series of funding.
This deal has not yet impacted Mistral’s business value until the investment is converted into shares. Recently, Mistral received a total investment of 385 million euros from investors led by Andreessen Horowitz, increasing the company’s valuation to approximately 2 billion dollars.
However, the European Commission has indicated that they will investigate Microsoft’s investment as part of a broader scrutiny of tech giants investing in companies like Generative. Currently, Generative is still in operation.
