Microsoft Unveils Copilot Search on Bing to Concisely Summarize Search Results

The origins of Copilot can be traced back to early 2023, when Microsoft incorporated the GPT model into Bing Search, transforming it into a feature known as Bing Chat. Fast forward over 3 years, and we see Copilot growing and branching out while Bing fades into obscurity. However, on Microsoft’s 50th anniversary, they unveiled Copilot Search on Bing.

Don’t jump to conclusions upon hearing the name. Yes, Bing is a search engine already, so why introduce Copilot Search? Well, Copilot Search doesn’t replace Bing but serves as an alternative interface for information retrieval. While Bing Search displays traditional link listings, Copilot Search provides brief answers along with links for further reading, similar to Google Search’s AI Overview.

If you’re wondering how Copilot Search differs from Copilot Chat, here’s the scoop: Copilot Search retrieves fresh web results and then summarizes the answer, whereas Copilot Chat focuses more on existing data. But in reality, the results end up quite similar.

TLDR: Microsoft introduced Copilot Search as a supplementary interface for quick information retrieval on Bing, similar to Google’s AI Overview. It provides concise answers with links for further exploration, distinguishing it from Copilot Chat.
