The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DES) has reported that from October 2024 to March 2025 (first half of fiscal year 2025), they have ordered the closure of 101,026 social media pages and websites that violate the law, averaging 16,837 closures per month. This marks a 1.62-fold increase compared to the same period in the previous year, where there were 62,438 closures.
The types of closures are as follows:
– Online gambling: 42,098 closures, a 1.45-fold increase from the previous 29,076 closures.
– Online fraud/deception: 24,887 closures, a 0.9-fold decrease from the previous 27,638 closures.
– Others: 34,041 closures, a remarkable 5.95-fold increase from the previous 5,724 closures.
