The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, also known as the Ministry of Digital Economy (MDE), has issued a warning regarding a recent scam involving fake SMS messages with links related to earthquake notifications. These fraudulent messages may contain links that malicious individuals use to install software for financial theft or to access personal information.
The MDE advises the public to exercise caution and be skeptical if they receive or come across SMS messages with attached links that do not originate from official government agencies or trustworthy sources. To stay safe, remember the “No 4 Principles”:
– Do not click on the link
– Do not believe the message
– Do not rush to act
– Do not transfer any money
If you encounter an SMS with suspicious links, immediately report it to the MDE by calling 1212 at the ETDA assistance and online issue management center or to the Fake News Combat Center.
