Monthly Ink Subscription: HP’s All-in Plan for Home Printers – Rent Machines with Ink Delivery

HP has introduced the All-in Plan service, offering printer rental with ink delivery to your doorstep when ink runs low. This subscription service starts at $6.99 per month. Customers who sign up for this service will receive an HP printer connected to the internet. If ink is running low, a new ink cartridge will be delivered, and in case of printer malfunction, a replacement will be provided the next day. Additionally, customers have the option to pay extra to upgrade to a new printer in the future.

The HP All-in Plan also includes a monthly printing quota. The basic package, renting the lowest-tier HP Envy printer for $6.99, allows for 20 pages per month. If more printing is needed, customers can upgrade to a package for 50 pages at $8.99 per month or 100 pages at $10.99 per month.

Furthermore, the HP All-in Plan comes with a 2-year contract. If the contract is canceled early, a termination fee starting at $120 must be paid.

Enrique Lores, CEO of HP, stated in an interview that HP typically sells printers at a loss, expecting to profit from ink sales later on. However, there are some customers who do not print much, purchase ink infrequently, or use non-HP ink, causing the company to incur losses. The All-in Plan subscription model, where customers pay monthly, aims to increase revenue in this aspect.

Historically, HP had a monthly ink payment service called Instant Ink, which only covered ink, excluding the printer itself. Epson previously offered a printer rental with ink service in 2020 called Epson ReadyPrint, starting at $14.99 per month.

TLDR: HP introduces the All-in Plan subscription service, offering printer rental with ink delivery and monthly printing quotas. CEO Enrique Lores explains the shift to a subscription model aims to increase revenue from customers who do not print frequently or purchase non-HP ink.
