Microsoft unveiled the Windows Recall feature at Build 2024 in May, only to be met with various conflicts, particularly regarding security concerns and data leaks. Consequently, Microsoft had to postpone its release multiple times.
Most recently, Microsoft has reintroduced the Recall feature for current Windows 11 version 24H2 (exclusive to the Insider Preview Channel for final testing before official release to the general public). This feature is limited to Copilot+ PCs with built-in NPU and comes with a preview tag attached. Users must opt-in to use it and must enable Windows Hello for identity verification before accessing the feature.
The paired features now available are Click to Do, allowing AI to read and interact with content on the screen in real-time. This includes tasks like searching for images on the screen and summarizing text. This feature also carries a preview tag and is exclusive to Copilot+ PCs.
