Netflix gears up for live broadcast of hot dog eating showdown between Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi

Netflix has announced a new live streaming content, but this time it’s breaking away from the norm due to hot dog eating competition rivalry. The show is titled “Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef” and is scheduled to air on September 2, 2024, local time.

In recent times, Netflix’s new strategy involves increasing live streaming content, with the current main format being solo talk shows without microphones (the latest being hosted by Chris Rock) and sports. They have already aired special golf events and plan to add WWE wrestling matches in the future. Previously announced events include a boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson at the end of the year, as well as some NFL matches.

Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi have been long-time fierce rivals in the annual hot dog eating competition held at Nathan’s Famous every Fourth of July. The last time both competed together was in 2009, with Chestnut emerging as the winner and holding a total of 16 championship titles. Kobayashi has been a winner 6 times in total, but he gained fame from his first win in 2001, where he set a record of 50 hot dogs in 12 minutes. Kobayashi has mentioned his plans to retire from competitive eating, and it is speculated that this Netflix competition may be his final one.
