Netflix Unveils its Inaugural Utilization Manifesto: Exploring the Hours Dedicated to Content Consumption on the Engagement Report Platform

Netflix has released new statistics about content viewing on their platform. In addition to their weekly Top 10 reports and all-time top content statistics that have been reported since the end of 2021, Netflix now publishes a biannual report called “What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report”. This report provides six-month data on the number of hours watched for all content, both originals and licensed, and specifies whether the content is region-specific or global. Additionally, content must have accumulated more than 50,000 hours of watch time to be included in the report, with numbers rounded to the nearest hundred thousand.

The first edition of this report covers content watched from January to June 2023, encompassing over 18,000 titles. This accounts for over 99% of all hours watched, totaling more than 100 billion hours.

Netflix highlights a variety of shows and films, including the new seasons of series like Ginny & Georgia, Alice in Borderland, The Marked Heart, as well as new series such as The Night Agent, The Diplomat, Beef, and The Glory. Noteworthy original movies that garnered a wide audience include The Mother, Luther: The Fallen Sun, and Hunger, a Thai film with 92.3 million hours of watch time.

Lastly, Netflix emphasizes that measuring the success of content on their platform goes beyond just the number of hours watched. They consider factors such as viewership compared to production costs and the performance since the release date. This data disclosure sets Netflix apart as a platform that shares more statistics than other streaming providers, with the exception of YouTube, which also offers downloadable viewing statistics.

TLDR: Netflix has introduced a biannual report titled “What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report” that provides six-month data on hours watched for both original and licensed content. The report includes over 18,000 titles and accounts for more than 99% of total watch time. Highlighted content includes popular series like Ginny & Georgia and Alice in Borderland, as well as original films like The Mother and Hunger. Netflix emphasizes that content success is not solely measured by hours watched, but also considers viewership in relation to production costs and other factors. Netflix stands out as a platform that shares more viewing statistics compared to other streaming providers, except for YouTube.
