Nintendo Ceases Operations of Nintendo Switch eShop in China, Effective 2026

Nintendo has announced the closure of the Nintendo Switch eShop and other online services in China in 2026. The market for the Switch in China has been managed through a partnership with Tencent since 2020. The company has not provided a reason for the closure of the eShop in China, which could be due to government regulations on video game content or business agreements with partners, similar to the case of Blizzard and NetEase in China.

Players in China can purchase games through the eShop until March 31, 2026, and download games until May 15, 2026. Nintendo will also be giving away 4 free games for Switch owners in China to choose from a selection of first-party games such as New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe, Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Yoshi’s Crafted World.
