Nintendo Continues to Support Switch 1 even as Switch 2 Hits the Shelves, Catering to Market Demand

An interesting tidbit from Nintendo’s Q4 2024 earnings call is that Shuntaro Furukawa, the president of Nintendo, has mentioned that they will continue to support the Switch 1 even after the release of the Switch 2, as there is still demand for the Switch 1 in the market.

The sales of the Switch 1 have significantly dropped, with only 4.82 million units sold in the previous quarter. This is attributed to the fact that people are waiting to purchase the Switch 2, as the Switch 1 has been on the market for 8 years now.

Furukawa also mentioned that Nintendo will implement various measures to prevent scalpers and resellers when the Switch 2 is released, based on the company’s experiences over the years. However, the specific details of these measures were not disclosed.
