Alpine Linux, the popular lightweight distro for Docker, has released version 3.20 with significant software updates, but the major change is the official support for RISC-V 64-bit architecture for the first time.
Users of RISC-V chips have been utilizing Alpine for some time due to various projects building from source code. However, the backing from the upstream project ensures continuous updates in the future.
In addition to embracing new platforms, Alpine 3.20 also updates runtimes and compilers for various languages. Examples include Node.js 20.10, LLVM 18, Python 3.12, and Go 1.22.
