OpenAI has introduced a new feature called ChatGPT Search to allow users to search for information from various websites. This feature supports real-time updated data such as sports scores, news, or stock prices through the interactive chatbot interface of ChatGPT.
In operation, ChatGPT will search for information through the web based on the nature of the query or users can choose the Web Search button to allow ChatGPT to search for information directly from websites. The answers provided will include attached links for users to view additional information at the source.
ChatGPT Search will be available for ChatGPT Plus and Team customers, as well as those on the SearchGPT waitlist, starting today. Enterprise and Edu customers will have access in a few weeks, while free users will be able to use it later.
The ChatGPT Search functionality utilizes the customized GPT-4o model, trained with data from o1-preview and other search services including Bing. OpenAI has collaborated with various news and data sources to ensure up-to-date information in categories such as weather, stock prices, sports results, news, and maps. Some of the media outlets involved in this partnership are Associated Press, Axel Springer, Condé Nast, Dotdash Meredith, Financial Times, GEDI, Hearst, Le Monde, News Corp, Prisa (El País), Reuters, The Atlantic, Time, and Vox Media.
