Opera introduces the web browser Opera One R2, marking the first major upgrade of Opera One since its debut in 2023. A significant new feature in Opera One R2 is the dynamic theme system, which changes colors, animations, and sounds. Users can choose from 3 themes: Classic, the original look; Aurora, a dark theme; and Midsommar, a bright theme.
Next up is the Generative AI feature called “Aria,” which summarizes content, answers page-related queries, explains images, and supports AI image creation. Users can utilize the AI image creation feature for free up to 5 images per day (without logging in) or 30 images per day (logging into an Opera account).
The tab feature supports Split Screen, enabling users to split the screen in the browser by dragging tabs to their desired screen size.
Another feature, Tab Traces, highlights the 5 most recently used tabs by underlining them in gray for users with multiple tabs open who may struggle to recall their most recent tab activity.
Opera’s music and video player on the sidebar can be controlled by dragging the mini player anywhere on the screen to resize for video calls.
Opera assures smooth transition when moving the mini player due to its multithreaded compositor architecture, which has been a key feature of Opera One since its inception.
Finally, Opera confirms its support for Manifest V2 extensions moving forward, even though Chrome has started phasing out Manifest V2 support. This ensures that extensions like ad blockers such as uBlock Origin will continue to function as before.
TLDR: Opera introduces Opera One R2 with dynamic themes, Generative AI feature “Aria,” Split Screen tabs, Tab Traces, sidebar music/video player, and support for Manifest V2 extensions.
