Originator of Flappy Bird Denies Involvement in New Version – Development Team Confirms Legitimate Purchase of Copyrights

Continuing after the Flappy Bird Foundation claimed to be fans of the game Flappy Bird and wanting to remake it, announcing a new game in 2025, stating they have acquired the rights legally, a decade ago, Dong Nguyen, the game developer, mentioned choosing to shut down the game and make it disappear from memory, creating confusion about what is truly correct.

Dong Nguyen confirmed in a post that he is not involved with the new game, has not sold anything, and does not endorse cryptocurrency. The Flappy Bird Foundation’s website initially mentioned Solana coins and Web 3.0 but later removed the message.

The Flappy Bird trademark was registered in 2018 by Mobile Media Partners, later acquired by Gametech Holdings in 2021, and then repurchased by the Flappy Bird Foundation in 2024. However, Nguyen did not approve of this and was brought to court.

One developer, Kek, creator of Piou Piou vs. Cactus in 2009, with gameplay similar to Flappy Bird from 2013, will combine elements from both games in the new version, showing the legitimacy of their game development understanding.

TLDR: Contrary to claims, Dong Nguyen is not involved in the new Flappy Bird game, while the Flappy Bird Foundation faces legal challenges over trademark issues. Developer Kek merges elements from previous games in the latest Flappy Bird version.
