Canalys, a market research company, has released an overview of the PC market (desktops and notebooks) for the second quarter of 2024, with a total shipment of 62.8 million units, showing a 3.4% increase compared to the same quarter last year. This includes 50 million notebooks, growing by 4%, and 12.8 million desktops, growing by 1%.
According to Canalys, these numbers reflect a resurgence in the PC market, with at least four quarters ahead showing positive factors such as the upgrade to Windows 11 and the increased use of AI PCs.
Breaking down the market share by brand, Lenovo retains the top spot with 14.7 million units, followed by HP (13.7 million), Dell (10.1 million), Apple (5.5 million), and Asus (4.5 million) in the 2-5 rankings.
Canalys also reports on partner surveys in various channels, noting the impact of Windows 10 ending support in October 2025, requiring upgrade planning. Most are not rushing to make decisions, with the majority expected to start deciding in the second half of this year or the first half of next year.
