Microsoft announced the postponement of the release date for Avowed by Obsidian Entertainment from the original date of November 12, 2024 to February 18, 2025.
This delay is not due to the studio’s inability to develop the game on time, but rather Microsoft’s strategic decision to stagger the release dates of their 1st party games. The latter half of 2024 has a packed schedule with game releases including World of WarCraft: The War Within on August 26, Age of Mythology Retold on September 4, Ara History Untold on September 24, Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred on October 8, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on October 25, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on November 19, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle within 2024 (date pending), Starfield: Shattered Space within 2024 (date pending), and Towerborne within 2024 (date pending).
Microsoft will also be holding a press conference at Gamescom on August 23 to potentially announce the release dates of all their remaining games for the year 2024.
In light of the plethora of upcoming game releases, the decision to push back Avowed to February 18, 2025 was made to allow players’ backlogs some breathing room.
TLDR: Microsoft delays the release of Avowed to February 18, 2025 to balance out the crowded schedule of game releases in late 2024. Stay tuned for more announcements at Gamescom on August 23.
