Potential Delay in Launch of Apple Intelligence in Europe Due to Digital DMA Legal Compliance Assessment

Apple has disclosed that the AI capabilities, known as Apple Intelligence, announced earlier at WWDC24, may not be available for customers in Europe this year. This is due to the European Union regulatory body needing to investigate privacy management issues beforehand.

In the EU, there is a digital law called DMA that mandates large tech companies with software platforms having a significant user base to provide users with easy opportunities to move data or change service providers. Apple Intelligence falls under these criteria, prompting Apple to collaborate with the EU regulatory body to address this issue.

Previously, Meta had announced a halt to the deployment of AI features on their platform for users in Europe for the same reason.

In addition to Apple Intelligence, users in Europe may not have access to the feature of controlling iPhone through Mac in macOS Sequoia.
