Potential Necessity of up to 4 Discs for Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox Series X for Full Content Inclusion

Baldur’s Gate 3 Deluxe Edition, set to be released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X this year, may encounter some challenges. Michael Douse, the sales director of Larian Studio, mentioned on X that the Xbox Series X version of the game might require 3 or 4 discs to contain all the content, while the PS5 version uses 2 discs. Douse further elaborated to Kotaku that the studio plans to allow the console disc versions to be played without the need for additional downloads. However, as posted on X, the team is facing storage capacity issues with the discs, jokingly referring to themselves as “clueless.”

Although the Xbox Series X can read Ultra HD Blu-ray discs, the maximum storage capacity per disc for games sold on Xbox Series X is only 50 GB, due to the discs having only 2 layers. In contrast, the PS5 discs have 3 layers (like FFVII Rebirth), allowing for a maximum content capacity of 100GB per disc.

For the downloadable version of Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox Series X, it requires 137.55 GB of storage, while the PlayStation 5 version requires 122 GB.

TLDR: Baldur’s Gate 3 Deluxe Edition may face storage capacity challenges with console disc versions, as Xbox Series X may require 3-4 discs and PS5 version uses 2 discs. PS5 discs have a higher storage capacity due to 3 layers, while Xbox Series X discs are limited to 50 GB per disc. Downloadable versions of the game require 137.55 GB on Xbox Series X and 122 GB on PS5.
