After just wrapping up the Helldivers 2 saga with my PlayStation Network account barely a week ago, PlayStation is already making waves again. This time with the release of Ghost of Tsushima DIRECTOR’S CUT on PC on May 16th. The catch? The game requires a PSN account to play, even if you just want to enjoy the storyline.
Information from Pirat Nation on X reveals that Green Man Gaming, the UK-based game key seller platform, has informed players who pre-ordered Ghost of Tsushima DIRECTOR’S CUT that the game will not be playable in regions that do not support PSN. This is due to the fact that the Multiplayer mode requires a PSN account to access. GMG will issue full refunds within 5-7 days to players outside of supported regions who pre-ordered the game.
Previously, Sucker Punch, the game developer, confirmed that the PC version of the game does not require a PSN account to play the single-player mode. However, to access the Legends mode (Co-op Multiplayer), a connection to a PSN account is necessary. This post from Sucker Punch has now been deleted.
Despite this development, PlayStation has not made any official statements or announcements on this matter. Additionally, SteamDB has not shown any indication of the game being removed from countries without PSN access.
TLDR: Ghost of Tsushima DIRECTOR’S CUT for PC requires a PSN account for multiplayer modes, leading to issues for players in regions without PSN support. PlayStation has yet to address this situation officially.
