Hugging Face has announced the acquisition of XetHub, a startup that develops repositories for Machine Learning and AI applications, catering to the needs of Hugging Face. Yucheng Low, CEO of XetHub, stated that Hugging Face’s vision is to democratize AI models for everyone, requiring adequate data storage and accessibility. The integration of XetHub into Hugging Face will further enhance this vision for the future of AI. Meanwhile, Julien Chaumond, CTO of Hugging Face, highlighted the challenge of managing a significantly larger repository. Currently, Hugging Face boasts 1.3 million models, 450k datasets, 1B daily requests, and 6PB bandwidth on Cloudfront.
The exact value of the deal remains undisclosed, but all 14 XetHub employees will join Hugging Face. XetHub was founded in 2021 by Yucheng Low and Rajat Arya, who previously worked at Turi, an AI startup acquired by Apple in 2016. Following their departure from Apple, they established XetHub.
