The Commercial Times, a Taiwanese media outlet, has reported a statement made by Barry Lam, the chairman and founder of Quanta, the world’s largest electronics manufacturing factory. According to Lam, Microsoft may unveil Windows 12 in June 2024, under the concept of AI PC.
Lam also mentioned that in 2024, his company will benefit from the production of AI PCs, AI servers, and AI automotive electronics. At the same event in Taiwan, Junsheng (Jason) Chen, the chairman of Acer, stated that AI PCs may not experience a sudden surge in popularity. Instead, they are expected to gradually grow in line with the emerging trend of increased usage of Generative AI.
Various chip manufacturers have already introduced AI-accelerated processors for PCs. For instance, AMD launched Ryzen AI this year, Qualcomm plans to release Snapdragon X Elite next year, and Intel is preparing to unveil Core Ultra on December 14th.
In the past, Microsoft had a tradition of releasing a new version of Windows every three years (during the Windows Vista, 7, 8, 10 eras). However, they broke this pattern by skipping from Windows 10 to Windows 11 after a six-year gap. If this news turns out to be true, the gap between Windows 11 and 12 might return to the traditional three-year cycle.
