Renowned PostgreSQL Developer Simon Riggs Passes Away in Small Plane Accident

Simon Riggs, a key developer in the PostgreSQL project, tragically passed away on March 26th due to a plane crash in Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom.

Riggs was instrumental in developing several organizational features in PostgreSQL, such as point-in-time recovery, hot standby, and synchronous replication. He founded 2ndQuadrant, which later merged with EnterpriseDB, a major PostgreSQL support vendor today.

Even after retiring, Riggs continued his work within PostgreSQL as a Postgres Fellow and delivered keynote speeches at PostgreSQL Europe events in 2023.

The PostgreSQL project extends its condolences to Riggs’ family and friends for their loss.
