Report: Massive 3.8Tbps DDoS Attack Unleashes 2.14 Billion Packets Per Second by Cloudflare.

Cloudflare has reported the largest DDoS attack ever publicly disclosed, with bandwidth reaching up to 3.8Tbps and a staggering 2.14 trillion packets per second. This attack lasted for a prolonged 65 seconds.

The malicious actors behind this attack targeted a UDP port, leveraging a botnet of routers such as ASUS, known for previously reported high-severity vulnerabilities, MikroTik, and other devices like CCTV cameras.

Cloudflare attributed their ability to mitigate this attack to their anycast network, where the same IP addresses are distributed across multiple servers globally. Their network is designed with balanced inbound and outbound bandwidth, utilizing CDN for data transmission, thus allowing them to efficiently handle the traffic influx from the attack without overwhelming their CPUs.

TLDR: Cloudflare faced the largest DDoS attack to date, reaching 3.8Tbps and 2.14 trillion packets per second, but their anycast network and CDN usage enabled them to effectively mitigate the impact.
