The Infocomm Media Development Authority, also known as IMDA, similar to Thailand’s NBTC, reported a preliminary investigation into a four-hour disruption of fixed-line phones in Singapore on October 8th. This incident resulted in various emergency numbers being down.
The issue began with a malfunction in a networking device, but the system was designed to have a backup system in place to take over. However, the process of migrating back was incomplete, causing a continuous problem.
Despite the system having issues, upon reviewing the data retrospectively, it was found that phone calls were still functioning at about half capacity, and the system gradually recovered during the 4-hour disruption period.
The investigation is ongoing, and IMDA has stated that if Singtel is found to be at fault, they are ready to impose penalties accordingly.
TLDR: IMDA is investigating a 4-hour fixed-line phone disruption in Singapore, with potential consequences for Singtel if found at fault.
