Resignation Revealed: OpenAI Board Chairman Greg Brockman Announces Departure, Separating from CEO Sam Altman

Greg Brockman, the co-founder and chairman of OpenAI, has announced his resignation from all positions within the company. This comes after the company ousted CEO Sam Altman, with the announcement stating that Brockman will step down as chairman but will remain in other roles within the company and report directly to the CEO.
In an email he sent to OpenAI employees, Brockman expressed his pride in what they have built, starting from his apartment 8 years ago. They have gone through both challenging and prosperous times together, achieving things that seemed impossible. However, in today’s announcement, he made the decision to step down, while still believing in the mission to build safe AI for humanity.
Following the announcement, Brockman posted additional content, stating that both he and Altman were surprised by recent events. They have learned and understood that Ilya Sutskever, the head of OpenAI’s Scientist division, sent a message to Altman to have a meeting via Google Meet, with the entire board, except Brockman, present, and then informed that the board had a motion to remove him.
Subsequently, Brockman received a message from Ilya to join the Google Meet meeting, informing him that he was removed as chairman but would have other positions moving forward, as stated in the announcement. Altman had already been ousted. Shortly after the meeting concluded, OpenAI issued a statement, revealing that the majority of the board had just learned of this decision, except for the new CEO Mira Murati, who had been informed one day prior.
TLDR: Greg Brockman, co-founder and chairman of OpenAI, resigns from all positions in the company following the ousting of CEO Sam Altman. In an email to employees, Brockman expressed pride in the company’s achievements but made the decision to step down. He and Altman were surprised by recent events, including a motion to remove Brockman and the appointment of a new CEO.
