Resurgence in Semiconductor Production Post-Taiwan Earthquake Disruption: TSMC Reports Return to Normalcy

In the early morning of today (April 3, 2024), a 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck near the city of Hualien in Taiwan, causing damage to several buildings. TSMC, the world’s leading chip manufacturer with factories in Taiwan, reported that the company has evacuated employees at the construction site of a new factory in Xinzhu, located to the north. All are safe, and TSMC has halted construction throughout the day to assess the damage and impact.

Similarly, all chip production plants have evacuated employees according to safety protocols, temporarily suspending production lines for safety measures. However, the factory’s machinery buildings were unaffected by the incident, allowing operations to continue as usual.
