Instagram has announced the start of testing a new feature that allows users to clear or reset recommended content selected by Instagram based on past user activity. This reset affects the selection of recommended content in Explore, Reels, and the main feed.
To clear the content, users can go to Content Preferences and select Reset Suggested Content to reset all recommended content. The system will then start learning anew and gradually recommend content based on user history once again.
This feature works similarly to the Refresh feature that clears the For You feed on TikTok, which has been available since last year.
Adam Mosseri, the head of the Instagram team, stated that this feature is not designed for frequent content clearing but rather for users who want a fresh start entirely. Every time you reset Instagram, it may seem less interesting at first because everything is starting anew. He, therefore, advises against resetting unless the content being shown at that moment makes you feel really bad. In that case, it is better to start over.
Instagram mentioned that this feature is currently being tested with some users before being rolled out globally soon.
