Gamers of the 90s may be familiar with the JRPG series Lunar: The Silver Star (which has been remade multiple times). Now, the game is making a comeback on the new console generation with Lunar Remastered Collection.
The Lunar series is considered one of the early JRPG games developed for the SEGA CD era, featuring sharper graphics and clearer audio than before, along with added cutscene animations. Developed by the studio Game Arts, which still operates today (even after 40 years) under the parent company GungHo Online Entertainment, known for games like Ragnarok Online and Puzzle & Dragons.
There are two main installments in the Lunar series:
Part 1: The Silver Star, initially released on SEGA CD in 1992 (with remakes in 1996, 2002, 2009)
Part 2: Lunar: Eternal Blue, first launched on SEGA CD in 1994 (with a remake in 1998)
Lunar Remastered Collection takes the remastered versions of Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete from PS1 in 1998 and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue from PS1 in 1999 as its base, improving graphics and displaying in a modern 16:9 aspect ratio. Players have the option to switch between original graphics or the enhanced Remastered Mode.
The remastered games by GungHo Online Entertainment are set to be released in April 2025 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One platforms.
