Revamped Design Concept for Microsoft Edge Scrapped; Tab Islands and Curved Edges Postponed until Early 2023 Release.

Windows Central reports that Microsoft is planning to revamp the appearance of Microsoft Edge browser with the tab version in a rectangular rounded corner layout. The new look of Edge leaked for the first time in January 2023 with the codename “Project Phoenix.” The fresh design features a transparent, sleek design with curved edges and separates tabs into rectangular islands apart from the toolbar. Then, in February 2023, Microsoft officially unveiled the new Edge with New Bing powered by GPT features and some design elements from Project Phoenix, such as the split-screen feature that divides the screen into left and right halves. However, the large image design has not been updated for general users, except for Canary group users, and has been removed in the latest Canary version. A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed the news of the discontinuation but did not provide a reason for the decision.
