There have been rumors circulating about the PS5 Pro, also known as Project Trinity, resurfacing once again (last round was in July 2023). Various news sources, including Tom Henderson of InsiderGaming, have recently released information about Trinity.
Rumor has it that the new SoC, codenamed Viola, will be manufactured using TSMC’s advanced N4P process. This new SoC will still utilize the AMD Zen 2 CPU cores, but with an increased maximum clock speed of 4.4GHz (compared to the previous 3.5GHz). Additionally, it will feature a new RDNA 3 GPU with a total of 60 compute units, although only 60 out of the 64 units will be activated. Its specifications are expected to be similar to the current Radeon RX 7800XT.
The memory configuration will remain at 16GB of GDDR6, but the data transfer rate will be boosted to 18 Gbps from the previous 16 Gbps.
According to reports, Sony is planning to unveil the PS5 Pro in September 2024 with an actual release date set for November 2024.
