Tero Virtala, the CEO of Remedy Entertainment, shared information via Business Review for the months of January-March. At the beginning of February, Alan Wake 2 sold 1.3 million units, allowing for partial recovery of development and marketing expenses. The game will be sold at a high average price in the future. The team’s goal for the first quarter is to develop DLC for the game, without mentioning a release on Steam or other PC platforms.
The company’s overall revenue increased by 56.2% or approximately 10.8 million euros. The operating loss stands at -19.3% or around -2.1 million euros, partly due to Remedy’s purchase of the full rights to the Control game series from 505 Games for about 17 million euros.
Tero mentioned that Remedy will now have the freedom to decide on the future of the Control and Alan Wake franchises, considering whether to self-publish games or continue distributing with business partners (previously, Alan Wake 2 was distributed by Epic Games Publishing).
Regarding game development progress, Tero detailed each game as follows:
– Codename Condor: Entering the final stages of development and close to launch, expected to showcase Remedy’s identity in a multiplayer, live service game format.
– Control 2: In the final stages of proof-of-concept, aiming to enter game development in the second quarter of 2024.
– Max Payne 1&2 Remake: Still in the development readiness phase, expected to go into full development in the second quarter of 2024.
– Codename Kestrel: The team is refining the game’s concept to be more complete.
TLDR: Tero Virtala of Remedy Entertainment shared updates on game sales, revenue growth, and future plans, including game development progress and franchise decisions.
