Revealing the Digital Well-being Index: Half of Thai Population Lacks Cybersecurity Knowledge

AIS, in collaboration with King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), has revealed the results of the Thailand Cyber Wellness Index for the year 2024. The overall average this year is categorized as “basic”.

The index compiled by AIS encompasses 7 dimensions: (1) Digital Usage, (2) Digital Rights Understanding, (3) Cyber Security, (4) Digital Literacy, (5) Cyberbullying, (6) Digital Communication and Collaboration, and (7) Digital Relationship Management. This survey was conducted with 50,965 individuals of all ages and from all regions of Thailand.

The index is divided into 3 levels: improvement, basic, and advanced, with scores ranging from 0 to 1. The overall digital wellness level of Thai individuals is at the basic level (0.68), with most dimensions falling in the basic category. The only area where Thais are on an advanced level is Cyberbullying.

However, when analyzing the index scores for individual skills, it was found that Cyber Security scored the lowest at 0.61. AIS disclosed that over half of Thais lack knowledge in this area, such as not being aware of Ransomware, secure use of public Wi-Fi for financial transactions, using birthdates as passwords, and not recognizing that secure websites should be HTTPS.

AIS is working in collaboration with the education sector to enhance knowledge in this area, as well as recommending the use of Google Family Link for managing family members’ device usage, sharing locations, and setting privacy preferences. They also suggest AIS customers use AIS Secure Net, a cybersecurity service that protects against viruses, malware, and fake websites, free of charge by dialing *689*6#.

TLDR: AIS and KMUTT released the Thailand Cyber Wellness Index 2024, showing that Thai individuals are at a basic digital wellness level, with Cyber Security being the weakest area. AIS is collaborating with the education sector to raise awareness and offers cybersecurity services to protect against online threats.
