Samsung has released its first quarter performance report for the year 2025 after providing preliminary figures at the beginning of the month. Total revenue amounts to 79.1 trillion won, marking a 10% increase from the same quarter in the previous year. Operating profit stands at 6.7 trillion won, up by 0.1%, while net profit reaches 8.2 trillion won, boosted by investment returns and tax benefits.
The company highlights the significant growth of its memory unit, driven by the demand for DRAM for server use and increasing NAND requirements. However, operating profits have declined due to lower average memory unit prices and restricted shipments of AI chips, affecting the demand for HBM products. The memory unit business reports revenue of 19.1 trillion won, a 9% increase.
In the Mobile eXperience business group, revenue amounts to 37 trillion won, attributed to strong sales of the Galaxy S25. Cost reductions in certain production components have led to a significant increase in profits for this segment.
Samsung forecasts a positive trend in the current quarter, with continued demand for AI server products and high-value items. The company has ramped up the production of HBM3E 12H memory units to meet the growing demand and has optimized costs by transitioning production lines to V-NAND 8th generation. The smartphone segment is also aligning to support enhanced AI processing at the device level.
TLDR: Samsung’s first quarter 2025 performance report shows growth in revenue and profit, driven by strong memory unit demand and successful product sales in the Mobile eXperience business group. The company foresees continued demand for AI server products and high-value items in the upcoming quarter.
