Revisiting the Resurgence of Commandos: Origins After 23 Years – Launching April 9, 2025.

Gamers of the 90s/2000s may still remember Commandos, a real-time tactical strategy game with an isometric view that allows us to control commandos sneaking into enemy bases.

After a long hiatus since the release of the third installment in 2003, a span of 23 years (or 19 years if we count the FPS game Strike Force released in 2006), a new entry in the series titled Commandos: Origins is set to make a comeback on April 9, 2025.

Following the closure of Pyro Studios, the Spanish developer of this game, in 2017 and with the distributor Eidos also no longer in the picture, the rights to the game have been transferred to Kalypso Media, a German game distributor (known for the Tropico series). The development responsibilities for Origins lie with Claymore Game Studios, a subsidiary of the same parent company.

Commandos: Origins (considered the fourth installment of the main series) takes players back to the World War II era. Players assume the role of Jack O’Hara, a Green Beret unit member, along with other team members designated by their traditional roles. Players will engage in diverse missions ranging from jungles, deserts, the Arctic, beaches, and combat against the Nazi faction as per usual.

Commandos: Origins will be available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5. For those who can’t wait, a demo is already available on all three platforms.
