Revived: Double Dragon’s Debut Remake in 3D Graphics 1987 Showcase Game Play

Arc System Works has revealed the gameplay for Double Dragon Revive, a beat ’em up game in the legendary Technos Japan series that has since closed its doors. The Revive edition takes the original 1987 version and revamps it into a modern 3D graphic style.

Having acquired the rights to Double Dragon and Technos’ classic games in 2015, Arc System Works previously developed Double Dragon IV in 2016 with a traditional 8-bit graphic style. However, the Revive edition is a remake of the original game in 3D while maintaining the simple gameplay of advancing forward and battling enemies continuously. Controls and difficulty have been adjusted to suit the current era, with Arc enlisting a team experienced in game development to ensure a fun experience akin to modern titles.

The game follows the identical twin brothers Billy and Jimmy Lee as they search for their kidnapped girlfriend. Familiar series enemies like Roper and Abobo make a return, alongside at least four new adversaries including Williams, George, Anh, and Minh, as shown in the latest trailer.

Set to be released in 2025 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC Steam platforms. Source: Arc System Works

A trailer was unveiled in July 2024 to introduce the game.
