Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced the cancellation of egress fees, also known as data transfer out fees, when moving systems out of AWS. This announcement mirrors a similar one made by Google Cloud earlier this year.
AWS has stated that in the past, they have provided a free quota for the initial 100GB of data transfer (covering 90% of all customers). If customers need to transfer more data out, they can contact AWS Support to request an exemption from the egress fees. Once the company reviews and approves the request, they will credit the data transfer costs back to the account.
The conditions set by AWS dictate that when data is moved out, any remaining data in the AWS account must be deleted within 60 days, aligning with Google Cloud’s policy.
AWS explained that they have adjusted these conditions to offer customers more options in hosting their systems, whether in other cloud environments or back on-premises, citing compliance with the European Data Act.

TLDR: AWS abolishes fees for data egress when moving systems out of their platform, offering customers more flexibility in hosting options and aligning with European data regulations.
